Our workshops have so far taken us to fascinating places and architectural monuments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg, as far as Latvia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. Our goal is to contribute to the growing together of East and West and to the European idea by working on architectural monuments.
The idea
We travel to special places – to tackle.
Throughout Europe there are churches, castles, manor houses and other monuments of magical beauty that are threatened by decay. Our workshops take us to just such places – from Thuringia to Romania, from Mecklenburg to Hungary. There, over a long weekend, a team of up to 60 VKFers come together and tackle the task of securing the threatened building.
It is amazing every time how much can be moved together within a few days: Houses are secured against water damage, church frescoes are uncovered and we have even carried out archaeological excavations under expert guidance. But the VKF workshops are about much more than simply securing or restoring a building monument. Organizing the workshop, working together and celebrating together in the evening creates a sense of togetherness that makes all boundaries disappear.
